Finally, another book tour! This will be my first real book tour since 2018 — Covid crushed my travels in 2021 for Hook, Line, and Supper — and it’s just starting to take shape.
I plan on traveling around the country supporting Borderlands: Recipes and Stories from the Rio Grande to the Pacific starting in June, and I plan on doing events up to Christmas.
The first stops will be in Minneapolis. A beer bash at Fulton Brewing, where they are going to brew a special beer just for the event, and then at Chilango, where we’re planning a fun, casual dinner. Right now Chilango is set for June 30, and Fulton June 19.
I have tentative events lined up for Boston, New Hampshire, Phoenix, Portland, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Fargo, Tulsa, Austin, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee. More to come.

Minneapolis Book Launch Party!

I can’t think of a better place to open my first book tour since 2021 than Fulton! I’ve done many events there over the years, and they’ve always been fun — and packed! We’ll have a special beer brewed just for the occasion, and we’ll be serving brisket tacos.

Fargo Book Dinner

I am teaming up with Chef Ryan Nitschke of the James Beard-nominated restaurant Luna in Fargo for a super fun Mexico-meets-Volga German dinner! It’s not so crazy a fusion as you might think — lots of German influence in northern Mexico and Texas, after all. You can reserve your spot here.
Minneapolis Book Dinner

We’re planning a book dinner at Chilango featuring South Texas favorites, like brisket tacos, charro beans and the like. Dinner will be $85 and include a signed copy of Borderlands. Super happy to be invited back to Omnivore Books, one of the nation’s greatest cookbook bookstores. I’ll be signing books and telling many of the stories of the people and places behind the recipes. No tickets needed, just show up ready to find not only my book, but other cookbooks you never knew you needed — I can’t get out of Omnivore without at least a half-dozen… 🫠

Maryland CCA Fundraiser

I’ll be headlining a fundraiser for the Coastal Conservation Association in Maryland at a private home along the Patuxent River. This event is open to the public, and I’ll be cooking up some Borderlands dishes using local fish and seafood — ideally the invasive blue catfish, which tastes amazing and needs to get et!

Get ready for serious barbecue — Borderlands style — in Boston! I’m teaming up with Andy Husbands of The Smoke Shop BBQ for a casual, fun mashup of border barbecue and Andy’s own sazon. Details TBD, but we’re planning on a family style event with lots of smoked goodies, a special whiskey cocktail, and who knows what else?

I’m also doing an intimate Borderlands book dinner in Portland with award-winning Chef Doug Adams at the Royal Coachman. I’ll be teaming up with the team at Rifugio’s in Washington state for a special Mex-Ital menu celebrating the strong Italian presence in Baja California. Kansas City Burrito Party

There’s no better place for a Borderlands book event in Kansas City than Yoli Tortilleria, a James Beard Award-winning tortilla factory and Sonoran food haven. Owner Marissa Gencarelli and I are working on the details, but the plan is to serve Sonoran-style burritos at the book signing. This will be a casual event, not a full dinner — although Sonoran burritos will definitely fill ya up!
